Martin Luther King Jr. - March on Washington - "I Have A Dream" Speech 1963 - 2013 - 50 Years

It's was August 28,1963 when more than 250,000 people gathered at the Lincoln Memorial for the March on Washington. It was the day that Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave a rapid fire speech that rocked the nation.

"I'm happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for freedom in the history of our nation."

"Now is the time to make the real promises of democracy. Now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. Now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood."

"In the process of gaining our rightful place we must not be guilty of wrongful deeds. Let us not seek to satisfy our thirst for freedom by drinking from the cup of bitterness and hatred."

Yes, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. lived and died a martyr's death, so that America, the Beautiful can see the need to judge a person by the content of their character and not by their ethnicity. Everyone needs food, clothing and shelter. Just think; if you have to eat, I have to eat. If you need to sleep in a safe place, I need to sleep in a safe place as well. You need financial security. I need financial security too. Peep this - step out of the box. So, the next time you go to hire someone at your business establishment, why not hire the person who is best qualified for the position - even if they don't look like your mother/father/sister/brother...Well, that takes courage - even in 2013. Just look around you. Intelligence, wisdom, good work ethics - you'll find those qualities in every ethnicity. No one is superior.

"When we allow freedom to ring - when we let it ring from every city and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all of God's children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestants and Catholics, will be able to join hands together and sing the words of the Negro Spiritual, "Free at last, Free at last, Great God almighty, We are free at last."

Quotes are from Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. " I Have A Dream" Speech. August 28, 2013
