Film Critic Barbara Brown, called me from the Bay Area and insisted that I go see the film, "Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day".
I must say, the film was quite engaging. Written by Winifred Watson in 1939, the film takes place in London, England, days before WWII began. Francis McDormand as Miss Guinevere Pettigrew, was quite convincing as a homeless woman(determined not to believe the fact that being fired thrice would damage her reputation in any field). She couldn't believe that her days as a Governess were over. As a matter of fact, the day that she met Delysia Lafosse and helped Delysia get untangled from the situations that she got her tap pants into, turned Miss Pettigrews' world up side right. Yes, Miss Pettigrew turned into a very nicely coiffed "Social Secretary" - in a day.
Amy Adams is so perfect as Delysia Lafosse - soon to become "World Famous" Actress once she lands a leading roll in an up and coming play on the West End in London." First stop West End, next stop Hollywood!" Delysia says with conviction. This of course, after screwing the Director's son Phil. So, the morning that Miss Pettigrew knocks at her door, Delysia is desperately trying to get the man that she bonked* the night before, out of Nick's bed and out of his apartment (Nick, one of her lovers and the man who owns the penthouse apartment that Delysia is currently occupying) before Nick arrives home - in 10 minutes.
The story unfolds quite nicely. The soundtrack is lovely and the film is light and warm.
Please take a peak at the trailor, and then go see the film.

Then you and I and Ms. Barbara can pour ourselves a nice cup of tea and discuss what we liked and disliked about the film....
* (my dorm Mom used to refer to screwing as getting "bonked" or
"get a leg over" whenever anyone had the nerve to return to our dorms late in the evening, way back when I was a foreign exchange student in London...)
Until next time....Carla
