Iconica - Mario Canali |
No words were ever truer. I distinctly remember the first time that
I encountered
Mario Canali's hybrid creatures, which feature the element of surprise and unexpected juxtapositions, I stood there in awe.
When Italian Surealist, Mario Canali, a native of Monza, Italy (15km north-northeast of Milan), stepped onto the Art Scene in 1975, with his first solo exhibition as a painter, then shortly there after combining his knowledge of electronic and digital art, he and his colleagues, Flavia Alman, Sabine Reiff and Riccardo Sinigaglia, collaborated as part of the Correnti Magnetiche Research and Electronic Art Group, thus creating 3-D animations which earned the group international acclaim, earning awards at Siggraph in Los Angeles, CA.,
Arts Electronica in Linz, Imagina in Monte Carlo and Nastro d'Argento in Rome. In 1989, they were awarded the Immagine Elettronica Prize in Ferrara for his pioneering work in electronic art.

What continues to captivate my attention when examining
Mario Canali's Artwork, is his uncanny ability to consolidate electronic art, imbibed with science, psychology, philosophy and technology, and he makes it work!
So when I first saw one of his graphite sketches on panel, entitled, "Avatars Talk About Life" (2002-2008) all done with graphite?
I thought to myself, "Brilliant!"
Mario Canali frequently lectures at the Multimedia Department of Brera Fine Arts Academy and
'Cognitive Environments and Emotional Sceneries' at the Digital Environment Design Master of the NABA Academy of Arts and Design in Milan.
Mario Canali lectures on topics such as "Art and the Paradigms of Complexity".
